Collaborative Workshop Enhances Research Skills of UIN Malang Biology Students
The Biology Study Program at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang collaborates with INBIO Indonesia in order to improve the abilities of UIN Malang biology students in the field of research and research by holding a workshop with the theme “Relationship Between Dry and Lab In Research”. (04/10)
INBIO (Indonesia Bioinformatics and Biomolecular) itself is a center for analysis services, workshops and private training in bioinformatics and molecular biology.
The workshop was held at the Auditorium lt. These 4 Science and Technology Faculties are part of the INBIO Indonesia campus tour 2023 in the Malang area.
This training was conducted directly by Research and Founder of INBIO Indonesia, Didik H. Utomo Ph.D and guided by one of the Biology Study Program lecturers at UIN Malang, Maharani Retna Duhita M. Sc., PhD. Med. Sc.

Integrating Experimental and Computational Techniques in Molecular Biology Research
In his presentation of the material, Didik H. Utomo explained the relationship between Wet Lab (Experimental) and Dry Lab (Computing). Experimental and computational activities are two things that are related to each other or go hand in hand. Wet lab (experimental research) alone will produce a thesis, dry lab (computing) will produce a hypothesis, whereas if the two are combined it will produce data analysis. “Working at the molecular biology level definitely requires computing to support research. Currently there is a lot of software that we can access easily to help the research we do,” he stressed.
He explained that before diving into the experimental section, students need to improve basic skills such as increasing literacy, whether in books or journals. A scientist needs to master various basic experimental concepts and have an innovative mindset. “Efforts are made for all biology students to be able to read articles maybe once a week, then the results of the reading are discussed or presented. Apart from that, students also need to have reference books during the lecture period,” explained Didik to biology students.

Followed by undergraduate and master’s biology students from UIN Malang, they were very enthusiastic in participating in the question and answer session. Some of the students asked and consulted about the research they are currently doing.
